Developing Leadership Skills in Students
At Oxford School, Kotli, we believe that leadership is a quality that should be nurtured from an early age. Through a variety of academic, co-curricular, and extracurricular activities, students are encouraged to develop confidence, responsibility, teamwork, and decision-making skills.
House System
Students from the middle and senior classes are divided into four houses—Aakash, Agni, Prithvi, and Pawan—representing the fundamental elements of nature. The House System promotes healthy competition, cooperation, discipline, and a strong sense of belonging. Inter-house competitions in academics, sports, cultural activities, and literary events provide students with opportunities to display their talents while learning the values of teamwork, leadership, and sportsmanship.
Morning Assembly
The morning assembly is an integral part of the school routine and is conducted class-wise, providing every student with an opportunity to participate and develop confidence in public speaking. The assembly begins with light physical exercises, followed by prayer, motivational thoughts, the news headlines, and the National Anthem. Special thematic assemblies on topics such as yoga, environmental awareness, national festivals, moral values, and important occasions are organized regularly to enrich students’ knowledge and character.
These assemblies help students enhance their communication skills, stage confidence, creativity, and leadership abilities while fostering a sense of discipline and respect for others.
Student Leadership and Responsibilities
Students are encouraged to take up leadership roles by serving as prefects, house captains, vice-captains, and members of the student council. They actively assist in maintaining discipline, cleanliness, environmental awareness, and the smooth conduct of school activities and events. Such responsibilities help students develop organizational and managerial skills while instilling a strong sense of accountability and service.
Teachers’ Day – Student-Led Initiative
Teachers’ Day is celebrated as a special occasion where senior students are given the opportunity to conduct classes and assist in managing various school activities under the guidance of teachers. This unique experience enables them to appreciate the role of educators while developing confidence, responsibility, leadership, and organizational skills.
Inter-House Competitions and Creative Expression
Regular inter-house competitions in academics, sports, debates, quizzes, cultural programmes, art, music, and literary activities encourage students to develop self-confidence, healthy competition, cooperation, and leadership qualities.
The school also provides students with opportunities to express their creativity through school magazines, newsletters, notice boards, and digital platforms. These forums help students strengthen their writing, communication, and creative thinking skills while encouraging them to share their ideas effectively and confidently.
